Indoor Air Pollution - Did You Know the Air in Your Home is More Polluted Than the Air Outside?
61Introduction
Taking a deep breath is only natural, but how would you feel about each breath you took if you knew that indoor air pollution in the home was a bigger issue than the pollution in the air outside?
This indoor air pollution is responsible for so many symptoms, including behavioural problems and health issues.
If you want to take steps to become more eco-friendly, then thinking about pollution, chemicals and your health is absolutely vital.
What is Indoor Air Pollution?
Indoor air pollution simply means that toxins build up in the air of our homes. These come from a whole range of sources.
Advances in technology, such as double glazing to make our homes warmer, may be a good way of saving money on our heating bills but they do contribute to stale air in our homes. This is why it's vital to learn more about pollution and what can be done about it.
The Sources of Indoor Air Pollution Are:
- Natural
- Chemical
- Electrical
There are so many items in our home that can cause toxins to build up, including the electricity that runs through it everyday, dust and pollen, and the wide range of chemical cleaners that most of us use - the truth is that these cleaners we buy from stores are often full of poisons!
The Symptoms of Indoor Air Pollution
The symtoms are very varied, and they will differ from person to person, from place to place. They could be seemingly small things that you notice but don't pay much attention to.
Some of the symptoms include:
- Tiredness,
- Dizziness,
- Nausea,
- Headaches,
- Anxiety,
- Fever,
- Depression,
- Irritability,
- Allergies,
- Difficulty Concentrating,
- Respiratory Difficulties,
- Cancer.
So What Can You Do About It?
The good news is that you don't need to change everything about your home to solve the problem!
Whilst it's true that indoor air pollution can come from the materials your home is built from, you can take measures to stop it having such an effect on you when the toxins build up.
This can include buying more plants to keep the air fresh, opening the windows more often, and avoid using harsh chemical cleaners. Simply being more aware about going green will naturally lead to a more healthy home.

This is a great hub and I am giving you a thumbs up!
Wow! I had never thought about indoor air pollution before. I'm going to be more conscientious about airing out the apartment now to let all of the pollutants out.
Fantastic hub! The information presented is very useful and helpful, too often, we forget about the indoor air quality in our own homes.
